When it comes to having a positive impact on our health, most of us could benefit from paying some more attention to what we eat and drink. Although many people are keen to improve their diet (and therefore their health) it can be really confusing to know what to do, with conflicting advice often coming from the media, friends and family about what is health and unhealthy.
Medical professionals agree that we need a balanced diet to live life to the full and protect against multiple illnesses. At Momenta we call this “Eating well”. We help people do this in a way that is both sustainable and consistent with their background, culture, likes and dislikes.
Our light-touch, Healthy Eating intervention is for people who might not need, or be ready for, a full weight management programme. It separates fact from fiction and supports participants to make healthier, informed choices around what they eat and drink. Designed to be flexible, it is delivered in a one-to-one format to maximise personalisation and tailored support.
Complying with relevant NICE and Department of Health guidelines Healthy Eating can cost-effectively enhance traditional Health Trainer and similar existing services with training, a more structured behavioural framework and high-quality resources.
Alternatively, it can be commissioned alongside other healthy lifestyle programmes, delivered by leisure providers or form part of a workplace wellness offer.
Healthy Eating comprises an initial assessment, with individualised goal-setting, followed by 6-12 x ½ hour sessions over a three month period. The delivery format can be flexed in line with participant needs and can also accommodate varying local service models or budgetary constraints.
Coaches attend a one-day training (for those who have been through our two-day foundation training). Our resources include a manual for Coaches and three 16-page workbooks for participants.
Nearly 11% of all preventable diseases in the UK are caused by a poor diet, which is slightly more than caused by smoking!
